Licenses & Disclaimer¶
xdfem2D is made of two parts, published under different licenses.
Licenses¶
| Component | What it is | License |
|---|---|---|
| xdfem2D (the desktop app) | The graphical interface and the AI assistant. Freeware: free to use for personal or commercial work, distributed only as a compiled application, without redistribution or modification rights. | See LICENSE.md |
| xdfem2d (the engine) | The 2D finite-element calculation library at the core of the app — also on PyPI. | LGPLv3 |
| eurocodepy | Eurocode material databases and design checks (concrete, steel, timber) used by the engine — github.com/pcachim/eurocodepy. | LGPLv3 |
The LGPLv3 lets both libraries be embedded in the app's freeware distribution while staying free software: you may obtain, modify and relink either one, independently of the app, under its own LGPLv3 terms.
The app also bundles other third-party open-source components — notably Qt/PySide6 (also LGPLv3). See the app's Help → Third-party Notices for the full list, or NOTICE.md.
Disclaimer¶
xdfem2D computes structural analysis and design results — displacements, reactions, forces, modes, and reinforcement/steel/timber design. Producing a number is not the same as the number being right for your problem: none of it is verified, certified, or checked against any code of practice by the mere fact of being produced.
This applies to the whole program, not just one module: analysis results, dynamic and seismic results, member design (concrete, steel, timber), and anything the AI Assistant says about a model — all of it is an aid to calculation, not a substitute for engineering judgement. Anyone using this software's output in the design, verification, or construction of a real structure is responsible for independently verifying it, and remains the engineer of record.
The software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind — see LICENSE.md for the full terms.
